Candidate Filing Period Open for Nov 5 City/School Election

Nov 5, 2019 City/School Election

November 5, 2019 will be the first combined city and school elections. In its 2017 legislative session, Iowa legislators passed a bill to combine these two types of elections effective July 1, 2019. Previously school elections were held in September and city elections were held in November.

Candidates interested in running for city or school positions must submit affidavits and petitions between August 26 and September 19 by 5 p.m. 

(Community colleges have until September 20). Papers for city candidate races where Floyd County is the "control county" are Charles City, Colwell, Floyd, Marble Rock, Nora Springs, Rockford and Rudd and are to be filed in the Floyd County Auditor's office. Papers for school candidate races are to be filed with the school board secretary for the respective school district. Papers required to be filed in offices other than the Floyd County Auditor's office are identified with ** and are encouraged to contact the County Auditor's office indicated for positions, vote for #, terms, and filing requirements.

Positions on the ballot for City Elections include:
* Charles City - Council (Vote for 3, 4-yr term), requires 25 valid signatures for petition.
* Colwell - Mayor (2-yr term) & Council (vote for 5, 2-yr term), requires 5 valid signatures on petition.
* Floyd - Mayor (2-yr term) & Council (vote for 3, 4-yr term), requires 10 valid signatures on petition.
* Marble Rock - Mayor (4-yr term) & Council (vote for 2, 4-yr term), requires 10 valid signatures on petition.
* Nora Springs - Mayor (2-yr term) & Council (vote for 3, 4-yr term), requires 10 valid signatures on petition.
* Rockford - Mayor (2-yr term) & Council (vote for 2, 4-yr term), requires 10 valid signatures on petition.
* Rudd - Mayor (2-yr term) & Council (voter for 3, 4-yr term), requires 10 valid signatures on petition.
** Nashua - Contact Chickasaw County Auditor

Positions on the ballot for School Elections include:
* Charles City Community School District - District Director (vote for 2, 4-yr term), requires 50 valid signatures on petition.
* Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community School District - District Director (Vote for 3, 4 yr term), requires 20 valid signatures on petition.
** Central Springs - Contact Worth County Auditor
** Osage - Contact Mitchel County Auditor
** Nashua-Plainfield - Contact Chickasaw County Auditor
** North Butler - Contact Butler County Auditor

Positions on the ballot for Community Colleges include:
** North Iowa Area Community College - Contact Cerro County Auditor
** Hawkeye Community College - Contact Black Hawk County Auditor
