The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met for special session at on Monday, May 18, 2009 in the Board Room of the Floyd County Courthouse with the following in attendance:Chairman Staudt and Supv. Enabnit; Absent: Supv. Dunkel
Enabnit/Staudt moved to approve the agenda as presented.Motion carried 2-0.
The Board discussed the issuance of county fireworks permits.Information provided by EMC Insurance Companies was reviewed.The Board would like the Auditor to follow up with some more questions to EMC and see if the CountyAttorney will have either a revised form or a position on whether or not to continue to issue these permits by the next regular meeting.
The Board discussed upgrading the County’s exchange server system with a POP3 Mail server hosted by Solutions, Inc.The benefits of upgrading the system would allow users to have secure access to electronic mail from cell phones or internet connections outside of the courthouse.It would also allow sharing Outlook information and allow the County to bring on other locations, such as the Conservation Dept, on the same server.The additional cost is slightly over $3,000 plus the cost of upgrading some users to Outlook 2007 and installation and travel costs for Solutions.
The Board discussed signage needs to put in the west/lower parking lot.The Auditor will order “Permit Parking Only” signs from Secondary Roads for each parking space.
The Board noted that Chairman Staudt approved and signed an Application for Use of Floyd County Courthouse Grounds for the Veterans Day Memorial Program on the front lawn of the courthouse on May 25.
Sandy Hicks, Floyd County Community Barn Quilts representative, updated the Board on activities of this organization.Discussion including locations of the barn quilts throughout the county, a request for a quilt from each county to be displayed at the State Fair, and the county contributing to the organization, possibly paying for a specific project such as the state fair quilt.
Future agenda items:The receipt of $28,000 community grant and where to locate tornado sirens that are the outcome of this grant.
A motion was made by Supervisor Enabnit and seconded by Supervisor Staudt to adjourn.Motion carried 2-0.
