Floyd County Board of Supervisors Meeting
June 11, 2012, 9:00 AM
The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met for workshop session at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 in the Board Room of the Floyd County Courthouse with the following in attendance: Supv. Kamm, Chair, and Supv Dunkel; Absent: Supv. Kuhn
Dunkel/Kamm moved to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 2-0.
The Board will review claims individually on their own.
Don Etler, I&S Kuehl & Payer, provided an e-mail on his intentions to present a report on Drainage District #12 at a future Board meeting.
Supv Kamm attended a Conservation Board meeting where they visited about the disposition of the Winnebago Scout Camp. Supv Kamm and Supv Dunkel attended the Iowa DOT open house in Floyd regarding the intersection configurations; comments on the plans are due June 18. Supv Dunkel reported that the Assessorís Conference Board will hold a meeting on July 2 to do a FY13 budget amendment and make an appointment to fill the vacated position on the Assessorís Review Board held by Ruth Molstead who has resigned. Supv Dunkel attended a Community Revitalization meeting where Connect Iowa initiatives were discussed.
The Board reviewed an e-mail from Mark Melrose, Melrose Insurance agent, regarding professional liability insurance coverage for assistant county attorneys, county medical examiner, and nurses. The County Attorney provided an e-mail regarding coverage for assistant county attorneys through ICAP. The Auditor informed the Board that our medical examinerís office responded that they are covered with malpractice insurance when taking county medical examiner claims. Melrose is researching options for the county and will report his findings at a future meeting.
The Board reviewed an e-mail regarding hail damage to the trailer used as an office at the dump site. Per the County Engineerís recommendation, the Auditor notified EMC Insurance Companies that it was the countyís desire to keep the trailer and settle accordingly. Melrose reported that EMC cannot cover the trailer for any other peril due to the hail damage already incurred. The Board will check with the County Engineer tomorrow about self funding the trailer since its value is under $3,500, the insurance claim check will be $2,200, and to move coverage from auto to inland marine would have a $1,000 deductible so the value is not worth insuring other than liability.
The Board noted that the County Attorney has appointed John Slavik to serve for the Civil Service Commission vacated position with a term that ending June 30, 2017.
The Board discussed efforts to raise funds to put FLOYD back on the Courthouse. There is still $910.92 to raise to complete the project.
Future agenda items: set up a policy for county solicitations such as the recent effort by the Sheriff to raise money for the interview office on ground floor.
Dunkel/Kamm motioned to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 2-0.
