Floyd County Board of Supervisors Meeting

June 24, 2013, 9:00 AM


The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met in the Board Room of the Floyd County Courthouse with the following in attendance:  Supv. Schwickerath, and Supv Kamm; Absent: Supv. Kuhn, Chair.

Schwickerath/Kamm moved to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion carried 2-0.

The Board will review claims individually prior to tomorrow’s regular meeting.

Updates on previous boards/commissions/activities:  Supv Schwickerath attended the District II Legislative meeting and Supervisor’s Affiliate meeting following the legislative meeting where at both meetings they discussed property tax reform and gas tax. Supv Schwickerath also attended a Business Improvement meeting where the Main Street Iowa project was discussed.  Supv Kamm attended a Chamber meeting where they discussed July 4 activities and a Joint Entity meeting where Mayor Erb requested more support for the Middle School Repurposing project.

The Board discussed drainage district #4 repairs and an amount to assess including repairs and carryover balance. 

The Board discussed upcoming appointments to the Veteran Affairs Commission, Conservation Board, and Civil Service Commission, and alternates to the FMC Governance Board and FMC Early Childhood Iowa Board. 

The Board noted the receipt of a letter from the Iowa Department of Revenue regarding estimates for FY14 funding of the Homestead Credit at 100%, Elderly and Disabled Credit at 100%, Military Service at 100%, Ag Land at 19.75638856% and Family Farm at 13.99556369%. 

The Board noted the receipt of a letter from Sheriff Lynch regarding hiring Joshua Patrie as a Floyd County Deputy Sheriff with a start date of June 30, 2013 at a starting wage of $41,522 and requires buying out Patrie’s contract with the City of Charles City.  Patrie will be filling the position following the retirement of Deputy Joel Cannon after serving 29 years with the department.

Paula Kruthoff, HR Business Partners, conducted an assessment of the Board’s perspective of human resource processes. 

Future agenda items:  Middle School Repurposing and a review of tomorrow’s agenda items.

Kamm/Schwickerath motioned to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried 2-0.
