The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met for workshop at on Monday, January 30, 2006 in the Board Room of the Floyd County Courthouse with the following in attendance:Chairman Staudt, Supv. Dunkel, and Supv. Enabnit.
Enabnit/Dunkel moved to approve the agenda as presented.Motion carried 3-0.
Roberta Vogelhuber attended the meeting to express concern about many veterans not being able to afford the $100 fee for their name to be put on the Veterans Memorial which is to be placed on the Courthouse property.Art White, Marcia Hall-Jacobson, and Don Casler also attended the meeting and spoke on behalf of the Veterans Memorial Committee and the committee’s funding efforts.Vogelhuber suggests that the memorial recognize all veterans without having names on the memorial and have a book inside the courthouse listing all veterans or that funding somehow be available so all veterans names can be placed on the memorial.White commented that the $100 is a donation and the committee does not intend to overlook anyone.Hall-Jacobson mentioned that service organizations will help support this project.KIAs and MIAs will be put on the memorial at no charge.Casler commented that the committee is not very far in the process of deciding how names will be positioned on the memorial but the will work diligently to make sure they account for everyone.Vogelhuber encouraged the committee to get the word out explaining the program more to ensure that there is no division among those who can afford the $100 to have their name on the memorial and those who cannot.Supv Dunkel commented that the Board of Supervisors part in all of this is to host the location of the memorial when/if the final design is approved by the Supervisors.The Board and Vogelhuber thanked the Committee for their efforts in organizing the memorial.
Mike Milligan, Zoning Administrator, discussed building permit fees for VeraSun’s new fermentation building which is the first of several buildings.Milligan reported that Ft Dodge charged VeraSun $500 for the first building and $200 for each building after and that FloydCounty’s fees will be significantly higher.
Dunkel suggested that all appointed department heads submit a weekly or monthly log of where they are going, all purchases over $500 be approved by the Board, report money received from grants and money billed and received from insurance, and other specific departmental issues such as Emergency Management reporting how many times MERV was used.This will be discussed at the February department head meeting and at a future regular Board meeting.
