          Minutes of Board of Adjusters’ Hearing for Michael Dow to have an existing welding and supply shop on his property located at 1220 Winnebago Rd in the SW¼ of Section 9, Township 95 North, Range 18 West of the 5th P.M., and a request by Rueben Nolt to have an existing metal roofing retail building & supply business on his property located at 2692 – 115th Street in the SE¼ of Section 26, Township 97 North, Range 16 West of the 5th P.M.

 

Board members present were John Gohr, Ron Muff, Bill Fluhrer, and Ann Sullivan.  Also present was Misty Day, Zoning Administrator Assistant.  Roll call of Board members was taken and four (4) of the (5) members were present with Dennis Staudt being absent.

 

Applicant Michael Dow was not immediately present for the hearing, so the Board opened with Applicant Rueben Nolt’s hearing.  Applicant Nolt stated that he sells roofing and building materials and that it is a family owned retail business with no other employees outside his family.  Chair Ann Sullivan inquired as to whether he had enough buildings to store his material and Applicant Nolt stated that he did.  The Board also inquired as to whether semi trucks travel to his home to pick up materials and it was determined that they did and that Mr. Nolt’s residence and business was on a gravel road.  The Board had no further questions for applicant Nolt.  Assistant Day inquired about the sew & vac that was also listed on his business sign. Applicant Nolt stated that is also part of his business and that he fixes sewing machines for his neighbors.

 

No letters or calls in support of or against this conditional use request were received by the Zoning Department. 

 

            A motion was made to approve the application to have an existing metal roofing retail building & supply business at 2692 – 115th Street in the SE¼ of Section 26, Township 97 North, Range 16 West of the 5th P.M., Floyd, Floyd County, Iowa, was made by Ron Muff and was seconded by John Gohr.  Roll call vote was taken and the application was unanimously approved. 

 

Applicant Dow was then available for his hearing.  Applicant Dow stated that he has a welding repair, light manufacturing, and tire sales retail business on his property.  He has been in business for 19 years and actually moved his business to its current location when he built his new home.  Applicant Dow stated that he has one part-time and one full time employee.  Applicant Dow’s operation consists of a large shop and one mobile service truck.

 

No letters or calls in support of or against this conditional use request were received by the Zoning Department. 

 

            A motion was made to approve the application to have an existing welding and supply shop at 1220 Winnebago Rd in the SW¼ of Section 9, Township 95 North, Range 18 West of the 5th P.M., was made by Bill Fluhrer and was seconded by John Gohr.  Roll call vote was taken and the application was unanimously approved.

 

            Motion to close the hearing was made by John Gohr and seconded by Ron Muff.
