[ARCHIVED] March 1, 2022 - Local Option Sales and Services Tax Election

Ballot Styles

Two separate Local Option Sales and Services Tax elections will be held on March 1.  Only Charles City voters can vote on Public Measure A and only voters from the unincorporated area (rural residents) of Floyd County can vote on Public Measure B.  Residents of Colwell, Floyd, Marble Rock, Nora Springs, Rockford and Rudd are not eligible to vote in this election because they have a perpetual LOSST in place with no sunset (end) date.  The LOSST for the City of Charles City and for the unincorporated area of Floyd County each have a 12/31/2022 sunset date, meaning the current 1% ends at that time and, if passed in their respective jurisdiction, a 1% tax would be put in place effective 1/1/2023 with the sales/service tax revenues applied as described in each jurisdiction's ballot.

Vote Centers will be used for the election.  A Vote Center for this election allows any eligible voter to vote in any of the eight polling places listed below.  All polling places will have both ballot styles and voters will be issued a ballot based on his/her residency.  Vote Centers are:

  • Charles City Courthouse (in the new Emergency Operating Center - use the new atrium entrance to the courthouse)
  • Messiah Lutheran Church, 705 3rd Ave, Charles City
  • Trinity United Methodist Church, 601 Milwaukee St, Charles City
  • Floyd Community Center, 706 Fairfield St, Floyd
  • Marble Rock Public Library, 122 Main St N, Marble Rock
  • Nora Springs City Hall/Community Center, 45 N Hawkeye Ave, Nora Springs
  • Rockford City Hall/Community Center, 206 Main Ave, Rockford
  • Floyd County Fairgrounds, Youth Enrichment Center building
(THE CEDAR VALLEY TRANSPORTATION CENTER WILL NOT BE A POLLING PLACE FOR THIS ELECTION.)

If you're not able to vote on Election Day, IN PERSON voting is available at the Floyd County Auditor's Office.  Office hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and extended hours on Friday, February 25 and Monday, February 28 until 5 p.m.  (Update:  The deadline to request a ballot by mail, per STATE LAW, ended Monday, February 14 at 5 p.m.)

Iowa law requires voters to provide proof of identity and residence.  Iowa voters are required to show an Iowa driver’s license or non-operator ID, U.S. passport, U.S. military ID or veteran’s ID, tribal ID/document or Iowa voter ID card at the polls before they vote. A voter without one of the listed forms of ID may have the voter’s identity attested to by another registered voter in the precinct or may prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents. Voters without the necessary ID or an attester will be offered a provisional ballot and can provide ID up until noon on Monday after election day.  Visit https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/voterinformation/index.html for more information on ID requirements, voter registration, and absentee voting.
