At the March 28, 2022 board meeting, the board signed the Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation:
Whereas, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors recognize child abuse and neglect is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community; and
Whereas, child abuse can have short-term and long-term effects leading to psychological, emotional and physical complications that have lasting consequences which can manifest in ways such as educational difficulties, low self-esteem, depression and trouble forming and maintaining relationships; and
Whereas, effective child abuse prevention activities succeed because of private and public partnerships and initiatives created between child welfare professions, educational institutions, health organizations, law enforcement agencies, businesses, community- and faith-based groups, and families; and
Whereas, communities must make every effort to find solutions in keeping children, our most valuable resources, safe and to promote and engage in programs and activities that create strong families and thriving children who will grow and shape the future of Floyd County;
Now therefore, in concert with national recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and April 1, 2022 as National Child Abuse Awareness Day, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaim the same in the County of Floyd and urge all its citizens in joining initiatives to promote child abuse prevention and dedicate ourselves to making our youth a personal priority, responsibility and duty to improve the future and quality of life for children and families.
