You are cordially invited to join partners and colleagues at the Race: the Power of an Illusion (RPI) Learning Exchange; a day of learning, listening & courageous conversations sponsored by Floyd Mitchell Chickasaw CPPC.
RPI is a 1-day learning exchange that brings together professionals, volunteers, and community members to have conversations about the intersections of race, equity and child welfare.
The purpose of RPI is to build capacity to reduce disproportionality and disparity in the Iowa child welfare system by providing participants with a safe environment in which to explore and challenge their own beliefs and attitudes about race, to practice better ways of talking to one another about sensitive topics, and to begin to have courageous con-versations with one another about how the notion of race affects our attitudes, beliefs and behaviors.
Defined as a learning exchange, rather than as a training, RPI is both a guided educational experience which uses a standard curriculum and a facilitated discussion that encourages and supports participants’ active involvement in the learning exchange. A team of intensively-trained facilitators with a background in child welfare, and commitment to eliminating disproportionality in the Iowa child welfare system, lead the learning exchange.
Lunch will be provided.
All registered attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.
IBON provider #94 has approved 5.2 Nursing Credits for full attendance.
The curriculum meets the requirements for the award of 6.0 SW CEUs & 5.0 foster parent training credit hours.

Malisa Rader is passionate about children and healthy family structures and has a strong desire as a Human Sciences Specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach to ensure that children, families, and the communities in which they live are empowered and strength-ened. She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and a master’s degree in early childhood administration, but her real knowledge of children and families comes from over 25 years of experience in the education field. Malisa’s primary areas of interest include early care and education, early intervention and inclusion, parenting education, attachment caregiving, and working with culturally and econom-ically diverse families. She looks forward to translating discoveries from current research into best practices for Iowa’s child welfare profession-als and those working alongside them by providing leadership, delivery, and support for quality educational programming.
