The Nov 5 City/School Election is coming up quickly. Be sure to plan ahead for this event.
HOW CAN YOU VOTE BEFORE ELECTION DAY? Request an Absentee Ballot. Obtain a request form from your county auditor or from the Iowa Secretary of State's website. To vote by mail, you must return the request form to the auditor's office by 5 p.m. on Oct 25. To vote in person, stop by the auditor's office during regular business hours (M-F, 8 am-4:30 pm) or extended hours until 5 pm on Oct 25, Nov 1 or Nov 4.
HOW CAN YOU BE READY TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY? Everyone must show ID! Proof of identity includes: Iowa Driver's License or Non-Operator ID (not expired more than 90 days), Iowa Voter Identification Card (contains 4-digit PIN), an unexpired US Passport, Military or Veteran ID, or Tribal ID Card/Document (must be signed, have photo and not expired).
Iowa law requires that voters vote in the precinct where he/she resides. Should you move to...
...a different residence within the same precinct - You will be required to show ID but if your ID does not have the correct address, all you will need to do is update your residential address on a new voter registration form provided by the precinct election official.
...an address in a different precinct in the same county - In addition to proving identity, you must provide proof of residence if your proof of identity document does not contain your new address. Proof of residence must include name and current address, be current within 45 days and may be in electronic format or paper. Acceptable documents include a residential lease, utility bill (including cell phone), bank statement, paycheck, gov't check, other gov't document or property tax statement (current within 45 days of final payment date).
...a different county in Iowa & have not pre-registered (by Oct 25) - Iowa offers Election Day registration.
Some polling locations have changed. Mailings were recently sent to Floyd County residents affected by the change. The simple part of the change is that all voters in Floyd County will now vote at the same precinct, their General Election precinct.
